At left, a Tuchrock - Officers, genuine item tailored Dresden 1935, it has not however the correct collar shape which should follow the collar patch edge better than this, as demonstrated with the re-tailored Bundeswehr collar below. Just occasionally genuine garments got it wrong ! Bundeswehr tunics have a 90 degree corner where the collar patch goes and look wrong. They can be altered to follow the patches shape by a good tailor. They also feature pocket edges with scalloped shape compared to the more common square edge. Such was also a variation seen sometimes on the genuine garment as at left and is acceptable, though to disguise the origin of the replica it is possible, but just, to alter them. Seek tailoring advice and costs. The shoulder board needs letting into the Bundeswehr tunic, same good tailor. Bundeswehr tunics need the metal buttons replacing with the brighter pebbled aluminium ones, these may still be available from http://www.extraklasse.co.uk/shop/shop.php Collar patches should measure 44mm wide and 55mm tall, dimensions perpendicular to edges, beware replicas larger than this or of inferior quality regards embroidery style or material fuzziness or incorrect lemon yellow. Bundeswehr tunics may have existed in two shades of blue grey, the earlier ones being like wartime Luft tunics, being a grey-blue more so than a blue grey. The standard Bundes tunic is a little too blue (with a hint of purple) but with Bundes breeches or trousers can produce an acceptable replica appearance. With genuine or WW2 colour trousers/breeches a mismatch may appear.

Correct width of cap band shown, correct peak crescent shape (not duck-bill as some replicas are now) and correct frontal appearance (upper crown) shape for the blue-grey material tops (also Wehrmacht) as opposed to a semi-circular shape as per Party Members caps . Note that the white topped cap’s crown shape varied as did its material pattern, a diamond impressed pattern is a

The two images here are of a re-tailored Bundeswehr tunic showing what is possible, the collar patch is also a good replica quality one.

The tell tale sign of a genuine collar (above) is also the steeper seam angle between upper and lower halves, compare to the Bundes’ angle in the two images at right !
